MMVA08: The Definitive Guide To Being Here (Vol 2)

Last year: street crowd!

Alright you hooligans, the MMVAs are now a mere FIVE days away and y’all are jamming up our comments inbox with questions a-plenty. So I’m here to set the record straight about getting your arse to the MMVAs - wristband or not - and YOU are going to READ before you ask questions, or I will personally sit here and fume out loud before approving your comment and then not answering your question I already answered like 15 minutes ago! You know? (I still love you)

1. You can come to the MMVAs if you have a wristband or not! The wristbands give people access to the pit in front of each stage. The whole street will be open for you and your friends and the crazy guy from a nearby alley to kick back and enjoy the show.

2. You can still win wristbands through the Nokia contest (til June 12!) or through various radio contests across the country - Vancouver: The Beat 94.5, Edmonton: The Bounce 91.7, Calgary: Energy 101.5, Winnipeg: Q94, Toronto: 104.5 Chum FM, Flow 93.5, and Z103.5, and Halifax: Z103.5 FM.

3. There will be one more limited wristband giveaway for NKOTB fans this Thursday at 11am! Come to 299 Queen St West, and you will be required to answer NKOTB trivia questions! (More info)

4. They’re giving away wristbands to audience members on MOD all this week. Call 416.870.6824 to book a spot! (More info)

5. You can’t buy wristbands, they have been given away in limited quantities! We can not send you some in the mail, and we can’t pull strings to get you in (we can hardly get ourselves in!).

TIPS!

* You don’t need a wristband for the red carpet! Come early on Sunday and get prime front row access to all the celebs once security opens the gates!

* Come visit us on Saturday and Sunday afternoon! All the performers have to rehearse, and you’ll get to see the artists in more of a chill vibe, often running through their songs several times. PS: We don’t know the rehearsal schedule, but it will start around 1pm.

* We don’t know for sure if they’re giving away more wristbands on Sunday, and if you want prime position on the street, be here by 1pm (this is an estimate - we also didn’t know that the line-up for wristbands would wrap around the building by 2am)!

* They usually don’t close the street until late afternoon, otherwise the crowd waits on the (barricaded) sidewalk!

Anything I’m missing? Ask away!

  4. The MMVA’s were ruined for me and my friends as we ended up leaving early because we were drenched and freezing old. It really sucked because we had wristbands and waited over 5 hours to get into John St wristband area and we were second row by stage! I feel like an idiot for not bringing a poncho, but the weather was only 40% chance of rain and the morning was super sunny and hot and we came from Oshawa.

We were told umbrellas were prohibited and yet they let people bring them in wtf!? We also left because we thought the show was going to be canceled when the down pour started at 8 and there was lightning too and they started bringing in all the equipment off stage. Oh well… at least we saw some rehearsals, got pics and most of the day was fun in line.

They should organize it a bit better next year for weather and put up a tarp or something or hand out wristbands to fans they see shaking in the cold. We were right by the entrance and they just watched. We would’ve tried to go somewhere to drive off quickly and buy a poncho but a lot of places were closed and we weren’t sure if we’d be allowed back in. Plus we were wearing jeans and they would’ve been soaked all night even when the rain let up, the wind was cold.

Even though we know it’s still our fault, Much should’ve announced to all us waiting what was going to happen (cancel or not). Thanks for the experience though. :(

  5. well, the mmva’s were live styll…me n my friend ahmed went and we got there at about 4:30…we didn’t come with wristbands of any sort and we were in the street crowd just holdin on to some spots; cause you know, once you leave your spot, it’s done…so we’re standin in the front row of the street crowd where the metal fence was…then we saw this white dude with like hundreds of gold wristbands just handin them out to the people in the lineup with the red wristbands…so i oreka, started starin at him and he was starin at me and my friend…i was laughin tho cause he was starin at us funny for like 5hrs(10mins) lol…

anyways, he came over to us (maybe cause we looked soo fresh n crispy may i add) and told us to meet him in the corner…me n ahmed booked it in a sec bodyslammin, pushin, kickin, punchin, steppin on people just to get out n around that damn crowd…the guy gave us gold wristbands which allowed you to stand on the bleachers on either side of the main stage where rihanna performed…don’t get me wrong, i’m hella greatful that we even got these wristbands cause we didn’t come with one, we even got better spots than the people who did have wristbands…neways, when we were about to go on the bleachers that were on the lefthand side of the stage, the SECURITY GUARDS stopped us tellin me they HAD to check my bag and TAKE my UMBRELLA ella ella ella eh eh eh!!…they took my umbrella dashed it on the ground and took four of my drinks that i paid like two bucks each for!! so that’s like 8 bucks gone like that…i was HELLA mad n i say it twice at what they did…i seen people comin in with they bags that WERE NOT checked plus umbrellas too…

i think that the body guards could have and should have been more generous and would stop favourin people;unless they’re givin away free tickets…but i was very greatful tho cause we didn’t come with any wristbands at all…like we saw celebs close up, got to touch them and smile at them…the thing i liked the most was when chrystina from girlicious turned all the way around just to wave and smile at me(oreka) and my friend ahmed…that was pretty live…but rihanna made me the maddest, cause i know alot of people in the audience mainly came for her performance…she went in as fast as she came out…plus she only walked on the right hand side of the stage instead of the lefthand side where me n my friend were…she says toronto is her most favourite city, so shouldn’t she have showed or announced it that night??…it made me mad, becuase i wanted to touch her hand and or atleast smile n wave at her…but durin rehearseals she was lookin straight at me lol…neways, after the show, i went to go get my umbrella and pops but when i got to the spot where they were taken from me, i saw umbrellas on the ground mashed up like security guars purposely broke them…

i also saw bags opened cause people were takin things that weren’t even theirs to take,i saw my drinks and they were wide open like body guards were snackin on them;to top it all off,my umbrella was either broken or stolen by someone, i was lookin for it for like atleast 10 mins.n guess what??NOTHIN!!…the SECURITY GUARDS could’ve should’ve handlled things more in a professional manner especially that coolie one…they made alot and i mean ALOT of people mad…

also, you know that white guy that was on stage durin commercials that was wearin a black shirt and black pants??well he was carryin a transparent umbrella that i simply adored…to make my day, wait, maybe my life it would be much appreciated if yall from much music or w/e could give me one in replace of my $30 one…cause the umbrella i brought to this event wasn’t even mine two:it was taken from me without my ATHORITY three:it was thrown on the floor like a peice of ish four:it was broken/stolen five:IT WAS MY MOM’S SO NOW I’M GONNA GET MADD LICKS/BEATINS/WHOPPINS YOU NAME IT!! six:THANKS very much…NOTT!!well maybe for the free GOLD wrist band i guess…but overall the night was very memorable, exiting, and live than i expected…

next year i hope yall have a great lineup maybe with beyonce, chris brown,rihanna,jay-z,kanye etc…but yes, it was great and i appreciate…but you know what i would appreciate more??if yall could GET AT ME and send or give ME one of those TRANSPARENT UMBRELLAS THAT THAT WHITE GUY WAS CARRYING WITH THE WHITE HANDLE ON STAGE DURING COMMERIALS ELLA ELLA ELLA EH EH EH!!well i thank yalls a hella lot for that night;MUCH(haha get it??”MUCH”)APPRECIATED!!BUT WILL BE MORE IF YOU ACT ON WHAT I SAID, YA DIGG??!..bye:)
