This is that special time of year where we round up all our newest, greenest, leafiest artists, throw ‘em all together, and poke ‘em so they’ll growl at each other (not really). And then we get YOU to tell us who most deserves to walk off with a big shiny hunk o’ metal. That’s right: a trophy for UR Fave New Artist! The power is in your hands, my friend. Only YOU can change the future. Seriously.

Danny Fernandes – Fantasy (Vote!)

His debut album Curious has spawned a pile of dance hits, including the title track and “Private Dancer”, which features Belly, that are burning up dance-floors all over the country. Good thing Danny has the whole singer-dancer-songwriter package covered. He’s got nothing to worry about, but I’m sure he’s Curious if you’ll vote him UR FAVE New Artist. So will ya’, punk?

Lights – Drive My Soul (Vote!)

Not only did she pick up Favourite Single and Favourite Solo Artist at this year’s Indie Awards during Canadian Music Week, but electro-pop scene newcomer Lights also won a Juno Award for New Artist of the Year. For realz, yo! But does Lights sparkle enough to drive your votes, and pull off another win at the MMVAs? That’s up to you…

The Midway State – Never Again (Vote!)

Piano-driven music-enthusiasts The Midway State are out in force. Even with a softer sound, these guys still know how to rock (and rocking on piano is impressive!) Singer Nathan Ferraro even got a Juno nomination this year for Songwriter of the Year. Not too shabby! And your votes can help them so they Never Again have to ask what would’ve happened if they won at the MMVAs…

Shiloh – Goodbye You Suck (Vote!)

Our second lady-singer entry in this category is representin’ Regina, Saskatchewan, by way of Toronto. Which just means she’s spreading the love. Only 16 years old, Shiloh and her infectious brand of poppy-power-punk is putting up a fierce competition for your votes. You knooow that she wants to say Goodbye You Suck to the other challengers, but only YOU can help her do it.

Karl Wolf – Africa (Vote!)

Karl Wolf is the musical veteran in this category otherwise full of newbs. He’s had years of previous experience writing and producing behind the mic, before recently stepping out to go solo. Now that he’s exploded all over the mainstream (in a good way) after sampling Toto Africa, he’s in this category (thanks to you!) as the Wildcard, trying to prove that experience trumps all. Well, experience and your votes, that is. Will you make it happen for the Wolf once again?
