MOD Spring Break VJ: Mandy

Heyyy Much Music!!!! I’m Mandy and I was lucky enough to be chosen to be one of the MuchMusic Cancun VJ’s for Spring Break 2010 with Breakaway Tours! I’m from Ottawa but I go to McMaster where I met my lovely best friends – Becca and Martha! Becca and I were totally taken off guard when we were approached out of nowhere on the beach by Much! Little did we know our dance moves were being recorded … couple drinks down and I always think I dance better than I really do…epic embarrassment! This day totally foreshadowed everything in our week…one big surprise after another and tons of embarrassing moments! 24 hours later, however, we couldn’t do it without Martha so she joined us for all our “adventures”!

First night of filming at Bulldogs was unreal! Breakaway hooked us up VIP style in a booth with Down With Webster! Absolutely love them…so much fun to party with! And by far, Tyler is my favourite…and you will totally understand when you see Day 5!

First excursion we went on was the most unexpected but also the most fun! Dee (our MuchMusic Producer) tells us 15 minutes before we have to leave to go on a jungle tour that each of us needs to find a guy to come with us…my thoughts exactly: “Umm great, so I have to go find a random drunken dude in Cancun at the biggest party resort ever and convince him to come on a jungle tour with me…anyone by the name of Mowgli around?” I had, like, a solid 10 guys say no! (R-E-J-E-C-T-I-O-N!!!) Then I found Darryl…he was 10 drinks deep, shoeless, shirtless and didn’t even tell his friends where he was going. I swapped him out for Chris when I found out we were driving two seater boats. (Gutless, I know but Becca was totally down to swap). Too many funny moments that day…still laughing about them! We still talk to the guys, too! And I was absolutely the most stoked about swimming with dolphins the next day…definitely didn’t know they were going to lift us up by our feet (one of those things you never question until you’re doing it)…and loved my dolphin kiss! Yes, ha ha funny that a dolphin was my first kiss of Spring Break… but definitely not my last.

Oh and being submersed into a tank with sharks…awful thought, glad I did it, probably wouldn’t do it again! Shark water is not only freezing but not the cleanest, that’s for sure! I think I was more rattled about being in an enclosed box (claustrophobic, much?) submersed into a shark tank than the sharks themselves. Crazy that we got to do all this stuff with Much! Oohhh the things that can happen to you on Spring Break in Cancun when you go with Breakaway.

Absolutely can’t forget last day filming on the beach with the girls and Tyler (sounds like I totally have a high school crush). Scavenger hunt seemed like a great idea…especially when I thought I was going to win. But I accepted defeat…graciously, of course. Who knew it would be so hard to find someone wearing a banana hammock on the beach? But I followed through with the “harsh consequence” and shamelessly made out with Tyler…on stage…on camera! Mom, dad…please forgive me!

Our very last day in Cancun was r-o-u-g-h! No voice, no clear memory of the week, no concept of time, no dignity (ha ha just kidding about the last one)! I think I rocked the shades from the last day all the way to the airport!

Funniest Moments of the Week…the ones I can remember at least:
1. Brian peeing everywhere in the Ocean when we went snorkeling
2. The voice out of nowhere while we were looking at the shark tank at the aquarium
3. Darryl…no explanation needed
4. Tyler trying to make a banana hammock out of his shorts when we realized we might lose the scavenger hunt…obviously unsuccessful
5. Jungle tour…getting stuck with the slowest boat…driving full throttle and being lapped by everyone!

THANK YOU MUCH MUSIC AND BREAKAWAY (Especially JR, Pat, Dee, Jay, Wendy and Down with Webster)! You guys all brought our trip to a whole new level! I will never forget this experience!
