Modest Mouse + newest member Johnny Marr = a neverending math equation!
So on Tuesday night Modest Mouse didn’t play that song but they did play quite the show! I love it when bands play their old stuff at live shows and that night they played a mix of old favourites and new soon- to-be-classics at the Hummingbird Centre in Toronto. As soon as they hit the stage everyone jumped out of their seats and started dancing along.
The band was joined by their newest member Johnny Marr, (former “charming man” Smiths legend). Together, they got the crowd going with songs like Dashboard and Fire It Up off of their newest album “We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank”. I was disappointed when they didn’t play Spitting Venom but it worked out in the end when they came back for an encore and played Bury Me With It (off of “Good News For People Who Love Bad News”).
It was so cool to hear the older stuff, (like Tiny Cities Made of Ashes) performed with Marr playing along. He and Isaac Brock shared the stage equally with neither one overshadowing the other. If you’re a fan of Modest Mouse, defiantly check them out live!
Oh yeah – bass player Eric Judy was sick and his spot was filled by the bass player from opener Love As Laughter.
