Sad news for music fans today. Original Monkees member Davy Jones has passed away at the age of 66 after suffering from a fatal heart attack. The Daydream Believer singer was on a ranch near his home in Florida and visiting his horses when he complained to a ranch staffer that he was having trouble breathing. An ambulance was called for the singer, who was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
In his teens, Davy pursued a career as a professional jockey and later became an actor, landing a role on the hit TV series The Monkees in 1965. The fictional television band later became the real deal, writing and releasing their own music before disbanding in the late 1960s.
At the time of his death, Jones was living with his third wife Jessica in Indiantown, Florida and had four daughters from previous marriages. Davy’s last public performance was only weeks ago on February 19 in Oklahoma. Footage of the late singer performing at BB Kings bar in New York City on February 18 were posted by fans on YouTube.
Our thoughts go out to the family, friends and fans of Davy Jones.
