The summer blockbuster bombardment is sadly (or happily, depending on your taste) coming to an end - but that doesn’t mean there aren’t still some worthy flicks to check out in the near future.
In my humble opinion the best new trailer this week is:

The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford - This trailer is short and sweet but leaves you wanting more … the essence of what movie trailers SHOULD be. I’m so sick of 2-3 minute “previews” that give away everything in the damn movie. So other trailers? That’s right … I’m looking at you “The Simpson’s Movie” … take note … this is how it should be done.
A true story (which is exciting for a history buff like myself) - the movie takes place during a lean winter in the wild west when Jesse James (Brad Pitt) brings in a couple new recruits, one of whom, young Robert Ford (Casey Affleck), will grow resentful of the legendary outlaw, and ultimately betray him. It’s rare I look forward to a movie whose entire plot is given away in its own freakin’ title (plus, if you care to read up - any history book about America in the mid-late 1800s will fill you in nicely too)… but nevertheless, I cannot wait for this one. Whether it’s a scruffy-lookin’ Brad (how we’ve missed you!) rockin’ the period garb or just a really interesting story that lends itself well to the big screen medium … I’ll be there on opening day - September 21, 2007. There have also been rumours of this one popping up at the Toronto International Film Fest - so keep an eye out!
Other new trailers worth checking out:
The Invasion - with Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig (opens August 17, 2007)
The Nanny Diaries - with Scarlett Johansson, Laura Linney, Paul Giamatti (opens August 24, 2007)
Resurrecting the Champ - Samuel L. Jackson, Josh Hartnett (opens August 24, 2007)
Things We Lost In The Fire - with Halle Berry, Benicio Del Toro (opens October 26, 2007)
Beowulf - with Angelina Jolie, Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins (opens November 16, 2007)
The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep - with Emily Watson, David Morrissey, Ben Chaplin (opens December 25, 2007)
As always … if you guys spy any cool trailers that you are excited about, let me know!

Benicio was fantastic is 21 Grams - although quite possibly the most depressing movie ever.
And I’m not sure about The Nanny Diaries…it looks good but I’m not a huge Scarlett fan…so I’m reserving judgement!
i’m oddly excited for The Invasion. even though the first cut was supposed to be pretty lame and they had to do some re-shoots, the trailer looks pretty damn cool and creepy.
Finally…someone else who is excited about The Invasion! Although…I confess my interest lies squarely in the fact that I can see Daniel Craig on the big screen again. So it’s not the best reason…but it’s a reason
I’ve head some negative things about it - first and second cuts - but I think I’ll still go see it on the weekend.
Rah rah oo la la rama ma la la gaga!

2 things:
1. I didn’t know Nanny Diaries was being made into a movie!
2. I LOVE BENICIO DEL TORO. He’s my ultimate man crush. I must see that movie.
