MTV VMAs recap… in case you missed it!

The MTV Video Music Awards were filled with controversy, blood, acrobatics, and a heartfelt tribute to the late Michael Jackson.

Madonna kicked off the show with a speech she wrote herself dedicated to the King of Pop. Immediately afterwards, MJ’s sis Janet helped cap off a stunning dance tribute to her brother.

Kanye, of course, provided the most controversial moment of the evening by jumping up onstage during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video. Kanye grabbed the moonman and the mic from Taylor and said that Beyonce deserved the award.

Swift was reportedly in tears after the incident. Beyonce, being the classy lady that she is, gave Taylor her moment when she won for Video of the Year.

Taylor reacted after the show, saying how great B was to acknowledge her. “She’s just been my hero and one of my idols ever since I was little.”

West, on the other hand, was repeatedly booed throughout the evening whenever his name was mentioned.

Kanye, just a piece of advice, maybe don’t be getting your liquor-on before an awards show. We saw you on the red carpet!

Taylor made up for the Kanye hijacking incident with a spotless performance live from the New York Subway system.

So there.

Other memorable performances in the show included Lady Gaga’s sombre rendition of “Paparazzi”, which ended in her untimely demise. How did she get blood in her eye???

Gaga, with no less than four costume changes throughout the show, won the Best New Artist Award. Luckily Eminem was on hand to hold her statue so she could stop scaring us with that mask.

Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” routine brought down the house, which prompted fans like Katy Perry to show us her single lady status.

Green Day crammed the stage with so many fans I’m sure security just raised white flags. Very punk rock!

Pink, who showed up to the awards wearing the same tight mini-dress as Shakira, eeep! – made up for that faux-pas by risking her life high above the crowd while singing her hit “Sober.” How did she sing upside down? I can’t even sing standing up!

Twilight’s Kristen Stewart showed off a new short ‘do so as she and her male co-stars previewed a new New Moon trailer.

Jay-Z capped off the show with a tribute to NYC. Apparently Lil’ Mama thought she should be part of the show, so she jumped on stage.
