My Date With Degrassi!

MuchMusic is airing a brand spankin’ new My Date With tomorrow night with none other than the cast of Degrassi! The episode airs Thursday July 29 at 8:30pm ET but you can get a sneak peek right hurre from MDW winner Ashley! Check out Ashley’s blog on the datea! I had absolutely no expectations when entering “My Date With…Cast of Degrassi” so when I got an email from the producer saying that I was in the top four, I was extremely excited. I had looked on Much’s website and saw the blog entry for MDW and contemplated entering, but of course I procrastinated and literally waited until the last minute to enter the contest.

I quickly called a few of my friends trying to arrange for some of them to come over since it was very last minute, and even got one of my friends to go and buy balloons and streamers the day of while I was in history class to decorate my room. When MuchMusic was ten minutes late, I immediately thought that it was all a scam and Much wouldn’t show up. Finally, five minutes after that Much arrived, and I was not scammed! I was extremely nervous about everything that was going to happen, and just wanted to find out what the results were. When I opened the envelope it was empty, and was really disappointed, but it was still a great experience. Then, I heard a knock at the door and it was Liz! She told me that I had won the contest and we were going to Toronto! I quickly packed my things, and I was ready to go!

The theme for the day was “Whatever It Takes/School”. We arrived at the Degrassi set, and Joey and I had a million thoughts running through our heads since we didn’t know what to expect. We were really nervous, but excited at the same time!

First we went and got our hair and makeup done, which was so cool because even the Hair and Makeup Department of Degrassi was familiar to me since I’ve seen the room in many On Sets With Degrassi. After we finished getting our hair and makeup done we headed back outside and found out what we would be driving around in all day….a SCHOOL BUS! Liz, Joey and I headed onto the school bus and the bus driver lead us into the set so that we could drive up to the front steps of the school. When we pulled up to the front of the school the cast were sitting on the steps!

Joey and I met the cast and introduced ourselves and went on a set tour, which was amazing because I saw the places in which so many important scenes had happened. We were both surprised at how real the set looked and felt like I was back in school!

After finishing the tour we all got back onto the bus (and sat in the back of the bus like cool kids, obviously). We arrived at our first location, which was go karting! Ray and I went in one car and Melinda and Joey went in another. The rest of the guys went in their own cars. Melinda and Joey came in first, and Ray and I came in last place, but it was okay! I’m sure Ray was happy to get out of the car because I almost flipped over the go kart when we were turning around a corner!

We headed back onto the bus and went to our next “secret” location, which happened to be rock climbing. I had never gone rock climbing before so it was definitely an experience! We all got into our harnesses and shoes and were ready to rock climb! We all climbed up the wall. Some were more successful than others (aka me), but it was definitely a great experience.

We ended the day eating at a restaurant called ‘School’, which was awesome because it went with the theme perfectly. We got to talk and learn a lot of things about the cast, as well as some random facts about everyone. After taking some pictures, giving and receiving a lot of hugs and saying our goodbyes, we headed back on the bus for the final time and went back to MuchMusic exhausted from the busy day that we had!

I want to thank MuchMusic for everything that they’ve done for Joey and I. I also want to thank the Producer and the rest of the MuchMusic, and of course Luke, Melinda, Ray, Sam and Jamie! We had an amazing time and it was the opportunity of a lifetime. We are SO lucky that we got to go on this experience! Joey and I now consider ourselves part of the Degrassi family!
