It’s only been two years between albums for Natalia Kills, but fans of the UK pop singer have anxiously been awaiting for the follow up to Kills daring and exciting debut album Perfectionist. With the second single dropping this week, Kills has proven that her sophomore album Trouble was well worth the wait, following up her strut-worthy lead single Problem with the introspective and autobiographical Saturday Night.
The emotional track reveals the private side of Natalia, who sings about growing up in a home with domestic abuse. Kills sings “Momma you’re beautiful tonight / movie star hair and that black eye” and “You don’t know what it’s like to be 17 and have no place to go” on the Jeff Bhasker producer track. The serious subject matter is contrasted with the uptempo, 80s synth beat, creating a visceral listening experience.
Showing her versatility with the first two singles alone, Trouble, set to be released on September 3, is gearing up to be one of the best albums of 2013.Tweet
