Becoming a Grammy-winning, international pop star is difficult. Add in being Canadian, singing in Spanish, releasing one unpredictable record after another and doing anything but fit into the cookie-cutter pop music mold and success seems like an implausible feat. Unless you’re Nelly Furtado.
The multi-talented singer has released her fifth studio album today, The Spirit Indestructible, making it her first English album since 2006′s Loose. In typical Nelly fashion, the album sounds anything but typical, including the BC native’s third single from the album, the genre bending Parking Lot.
Setting it’s own tone on an album comprised of heavy bass dance tracks and inspirational ballads, Parking Lot is like nothing fans have ever heard from Furtado, or any other artist for that matter. Continuing in her tradition of experimenting with sounds, Parking Lot is best described as MIA meets Gwen Stefani meets traditional folk music. This description sounds ridiculous and it totally works, making it totally Nelly.
