New Moon slayed its competition at the box office over the weekend.
In its first three days, the Twilight sequel raked in $140.7 million dollars in North America to bring its worldwide total to $258.8 million.
The North American numbers placed New Moon third all-time behind only The Dark Knight and Spider-Man 3.
New Moon, however, did set an all-time high for an opening day total with $72.7 million, topping the previous record The Dark Knight set last year with $67.2 million.
A year ago, Twilight exceeded expectations by bringing in $69.6 million in its opening weekend.
Who said sequels were inferior?
