Lots of new music out today! Here’s a sampling of what I think is noteworthy.
Ne-Yo - Because Of You. No one’s saying much about Ne-Yo’s second album - I’ll have to hear it for myself to judge what the fuss is not about. His debut album sold 1.4 million copies in the U.S. alone! Plus he is hawwwwwt according to Jen & Wendy.
Natasha Bedingfield - N.B. I’m not a fan of any album (especially anything after a debut) being eponymous. It just seems so lazy! I enjoyed Natasha’s previous album more than I care to admit, but the first single from this album’s called “I Wanna Have Your Babies” so I already dislike it. ETA: OK, I just watched the video and confirmed it. Cheesy.
Dinosaur Jr. - Beyond. This is the band’s first album with the original lineup (J. Mascis, Lou Barlow & Murph) since 1988. J. Mascis played at Toronto’s Olympic Island last year and people lost touch. Then he played with Broken Social Scene at a private club and that sold out. Then DJ did another Toronto show and that sold out too. This must mean something.
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Baby 81. People are already really digging this new album, saying it’s a return to form for BRMC, and very different from the poorly received Howl. First single is Weapon Of Choice.
Feist - The Reminder. Feist’s second album has been hugely anticipated by nearly everyone who has ears and from what I’ve read in the blogosphere it’s been worth the wait. Listen to the whole album here.
Tori Amos - American Doll Posse. For some reason, for the last 15 years or however long Tori has been around, I have ALWAYS thought she was British. Always. She is in fact American, and born in North Carolina. Who knew? The American Doll “Posse” consists of a group of girls who appear as alter egos on the album; Santa, Clyde, Isabel, Tori, and Pip. According to Tori each girl has her own blog somewhere on the web and is encouraging fans to track down each one.
