Nick’s Quick Review: Alexisonfire - Crisis

September 5th, 2006

alexisonfire-crisis.jpgNow, I have been a mediocre fan of Alexisonfire for a couple years now. I’ve seen them live several times and owned their second album Watch Out, but I hadn’t given it enough time of day to become a huge fan. I’ve watched their careers expand over the past few years. They started off as something that was hard to get used to, but over time they’ve defined their sound and they’ve truly released a seriously kick-ass album this time. Crisis is a C.D. that makes me truly proud of both the band and the country they come from, Canada. The CD is innovative and more original and fresh than any other CD I’ve heard all year. That’s something that I’ve really been looking out for too.

Some reasons that this album is so good is; it’s hard, it’s paced, it’s driven; it’s diverse. Rock and Metal are making a big comeback in the music scene and Alexisonfire are helping make that happen. Even if you think you don’t like the “screaming”, it will only take one or two straight listens of the album to change your mind. The lyrical content is intelligent even if some of it is being screamed. Alexisonfire have three predominant contrasting voices in the band. There are the screams of George, the super soft melodies of Dallas and the perfect rock sound of Wade (my favourite). All in all this album is phenomenal. I’ve listened to it 4 times in a row, straight.

Some really good songs are; Boiled Frogs, Keep It On Wax, and Crisis. Give this CD the time of day.

I give this CD 4.5 of 5 “trashed party houses”.
