Nick’s Quick Review: Audioslave - Revelations

September 19th, 2006

audioslave-revelations.jpgAudioslave was one of the best shows I have ever seen in my life! I remember getting into that sold out concert against all odds and watching Tom Morello rip every note just like you heard it on the album. That was before their second album Into Exile was released. When Into Exile came out, I was excited, and true it wasn’t as good as their multi platinum self titled debut release, it was good. Be Yourself was an awesome single, but when they released the more mainstream, almost country funk rock single Doesn’t Remind Me, I figured they were trying to appeal a different type of fan. Audioslave is some serious hard rock. I mean, Chris Cornell from Soundgarden and Tim, Tom and Brad from Rage Against the Machine, that’s seriously hard rock, which that ever so popular single didn’t reflect. But that’s cool.

So when I heard their new single Original Fire off their latest album Revelations, I’m not going to lie, I didn’t like it. I thought they went soft. I was thinking maybe Audioslave found so much success with their single Doesn’t Remind Me, that they were following the formula and had essentially sold out. Guess what. I was wrong. This album is all rock. It’s hard and has the bad-ass-ness that Tom Morello was born to play, the sound Chris Cornell was born to spew and the fire that Audioslave has mounted on their first album cover.

One thing about this album is Tim’s bass has a lot more blues and jazz to it, but it works. The beats are good and Tom has some serious solos. I haven’t listened to this album as much as I want to just yet, but the opening track Revelations is one of the best on it.

I give Audioslave - Revelations 3.5 out of 5 Trashed Party Houses.
