The band Hard-Fi from Staines, England hasn’t been around for too long but they’ve definately made a blip on the radar of the Canadian and American music scenes. But only a blip. In England however, the band hit number one with the release of Cash Machine (video link) in January 2006 and won a couple Brit Awards. They had a North American tour earlier this spring, which I unfortunately missed. At the time, I wasn’t a fan, but I am now. The band’s lyrical content generally describes the trials and tribulations of a young adult stuck in a repetitive life. Their style is hard rock mixed with a little bit of bad-ass pop. It’s something original, which is hard to find nowadays in the ever increasing library of musicians on the pop charts. Not only is the album really well produced, it seems the band has some genuine talent. The singer (and frontman) Richard Archer has an incredible voice that demands attention. Some key songs that are worth listening to are the upbeat ‘Middle Eastern Holiday’, ‘Feltham Is Singing Out’ and ‘Living for the Weekend’. Another song that is amazing is a slow song called ‘Move On Now’ that deals with a break-up. It’s pure piano and vocals until the last 20 seconds of the song.
The band’s image and video are pretty decent too. It’s something genuine. I’ve heard less than stellar things about their live performances, but that’s irrelevant. This CD is for sure worth having! I give this CD 4.5 of 5 “trashed party houses”…
That’s right. I’m rating CDs by trashed party houses.
Easy,
