The Strokes are a different style band… Dot dot dot, question mark , asterisk, pound, exclamation point, but it’s a’ight. Their music’s some melodic, simple, lame, yet raw grungy rock. They basically followed the path of The Ramones. Their second album, Room On Fire came out, I was like “Yeah, this is coo’…” I picked up their latest album First Impressions of Earth and that’s when they fell the ?*#! off. I heard their live performances included the band not moving, not trying, drunk on stage. I have to say though, they put on a pretty dirty show at VFest. The band rocked out all the hits. After three albums, they got hits. You can’t help but like ‘em.
Since they’re one of the few mainstream bands at the show, they really had to kick some nuts, Otherwise, it’d be partly on their heads if the festival sucked. Even though I wanted the festival to rock, there’s this evil little spiteful devil in me that wanted The Strokes to suck and get booed off stage.
They didn’t. At all.
The Strokes kicked ass. I didn’t want to admit it at first, but I swear, they did. Julian looked like he was on something serious. Like he was only on stage to not give a F***. It was bad-ass and mean. But he was good. All the solos were good. The music was loud. A song would come on that I didn’t really like before, and I’d turn to my friend and be like “Oh I love this song”, like, where the hell did that come from? The band kept the energy high, it was just solid.
The Strokes, right on. Thank you.
