Looks like No Doubt has no doubt won the war against Activision, the company that produces the game Band Hero as they have announced (on Gwen’s birthday no less) that a settlement has been reached between the band and the company. Released November 3, 2009, a day after the game was released No Doubt filed their claim against Activision for fraud, violation of publicity rights, and breach of contract. What this means is that No Doubt thought that their likeness was misappropriated for the game, as in they thought their avatars would only work for the three songs that they performed in the game. In actuality, if users unlocked certain portions of the game, they could do certain things with the band’s avatars like have Gwen perform the suggestive lyrics to the Rolling Stones’ Honky Tonk Women or have Tony Kanal’s avatar perform the lyrics to Just A Girl.
I don’t know about you guys but if someone made me into a game avatar I would definitely want control as to what a gamer could do with my virtual body. Yikes, I would not want to be caught doing a Gangnam Style dance. What do you guys think? And be sure to check out No Doubt’s video for Settle Down here.
