Rihanna has startled the media, management, and fans with her recent interview in Elle magazine. In the piece she says that the relationship with Chris Brown and the fallout after the assault in 2009 has been hard to accept. Despite the pressures to stay away from Brown coming from her team, their worries do not faze her stating, “I’m still going to do what I want to do.” She goes on to say that her experience with Brown and the media had an overall positive effect on her life. She explains, “It gave me guns … They know more about me than I want them to know. It’s embarrassing. But that was my opening. That was my liberation, my moment of bring it. I wanted people to know who I am. Whatever they take that to be, good or bad, I just want them to know the truth.”

Despite the media attention on the evolution of Rihanna and Chris Brown’s relationship, Rihanna has managed to work on her music with finesse. She released her sixth studio album Talk That Talk last November and is developing her seventh album during promotion of her current one. She also is set to perform at the outdoor festival BBC Radio 1′s Hackney Weekend event this summer to commemorate the 2012 Olympic Games.
