Last night I went to check out the main event of Manifesto, the final shebang of a weekend-long festival celebrating urban culture and art. To cap off the earlier events Rascalz, K’Naan and k-os were scheduled to take the stage and bring some of Canada’s finest hip-hop styles to the crowd. Due to a bit of a late start, everyone had to keep their set short & sweet, but they still sounded on point - especially K’Naan. (Note to self: listen to more K’Naan).
Anyway, the highlight of my evening came when Rascalz brought out Choclair and Thrust to perform “Northern Touch” (watch it here) - eleven years after its initial release!! Crazy. This track is like a Canadian hip-hop anthem, and it definitely put Toronto/Vancouver hip-hop on the map. Kardi wasn’t there to do the chorus, and I’m not sure where Checkmate is these days … but it was still hype.
