Could this be the end of the supposed long time rivalry between Directioners and The Wanted fans? Apparently the guys have buried the hatchet and have begun to hang out with each other. TMZ caught up with Nathan Sykes of The Wanted and got him to talk about the relationship between the two boy bands.
Nathan began with a mortifying story which happened during their shared time in the same studio explaining, “We were rehearsing with them the other day and we heard their band rehearsing and we were like, walking into the studio really embarrassingly singing the song their band was rehearsing to. Then we turned around and saw them sitting there, and we were like, ‘Well, that was embarrassing!’” They say that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, and even though that moment was cringe-worthy for The Wanted, it got the two bands talking. Nathan and Liam Payne of One Direction have even started texting each other!
The Wanted is also known for being the “bad boys” of boy bands which instigated reports that One Direction was afraid of the guys of The Wanted. Nathan addressed that rumour by saying, “We intimidate a lot of people, but I don’t think we intimidate other teenage boys.”
We’re always happy to hear when there is a lack of beef between performers. Now what will fans of both bands call themselves? Wan-Directioners? The-Ones? Direction-teds? Either way, both bands are still riding on the success of the release of their albums Stateside amassing millions of fans along the way.
And don’t forget that we will be airing our One Direction special, NML Presents: One Direction Revealed this Friday, April 20 on New.Music.Live at 6pm ET/ 3pm PT on MuchMusic or live online at NewMusicLive.ca. Be sure to watch it!
