One Direction announce Zayn Malik’s temporary departure

One Direction member Harry Styles took to his Twitter account this afternoon to announce that fellow Directioner Zayn Malik is taking a temporary leave from the band’s tour after suffering a loss in his family. Styles tweet is the only official release on Zayn’s departure, saying “Zayn has suffered a loss in his family & has had to go home for a few days so won’t be at our next shows in the US. Our thoughts are with him and his family at this sad time”

Malik was in the MuchMusic studios on Monday night when his band, along with their tourmates Big Time Rush, caused the streets of Toronto to close down for the day to welcome the two boy bands.

It’s unclear as to when or if Malik will return to the tour to finish the band’s US dates since there are only a handful of stops left on their Better With U tour.
