One D are going 3D. UK boy band One Direction are the latest pop stars to get the 3D movie treatment, following in the red and blue footsteps of Justin Bieber and Katy Perry. The band appeared on NBC’s Today Show in New York this morning and in addition to performing their new single Little Things, they also announced their plans for the big screen.
Set to hit theatres on August 30, 2013 (and score some serious Labour Day box office love), the film will be directed by Super Size Me documentary maker Morgan Spurlock, who in addition to examining fast food behemoth McDonalds, has also made the films Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden? and The Greatest Movie Ever Sold.
Simon Cowell, who discovered One Direction on the UK edition of The X Factor, is producing the 3D film and praises the movie’s director, saying “Morgan is the perfect person to give that access-all-areas, behind-the-scenes look into what it’s like to be One Direction today.” It’s awesome. I’m 99.9% sure it’s awesome.
