One Direction to perform at 2012 MTV Music Awards

MTV have announced the nominees for the 2012 MTV Music Video Awards today, as well as the line up for the September 6th awards show. Alicia Keys, who will premiere a song from her upcoming album, and British boy band One Direction are set to hit the stage live from the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on September 6 at 8 pm ET, with more performer announcements to follow.

Rihanna and Drake lead the pack with five nominations each, including multiple nominations for their collaboration on Drake’s Take Care. Katy Perry has set herself up for another successful year at the VMA’s with four nominations.

Drake isn’t the only Canadian to see his name on the nomination list. Nelly Furtado, K’Naan, and Justin Bieber are all nominated, as well as Mission, BC’s Carly Rae Jepsen, who scored a nomination for Best New Artist against fun., Frank Ocean, One Direction and The Wanted.
