Best way to start your day off: Kathleen Edwards:
The Canadian singer-songwriter played an early set in the sweltering heat, but Kathleen Edwards definitely wowed everyone who was lucky enough to come early and catch her set. Filled with easy-going folk-pop tunes, Edwards’ set was the perfect way to ease you into the festival spirit on day two and also, kind of a way to get your Canadian folk-pop fix till later on in the evening when Feist took the stage.
Most confusing performance: Snoop Dogg…or Lion?
No one knew what was going to happen by the end of the second day at Osheaga – were we going to get Snoop Dogg or Snoop Lion? Turns out we got a bit of both, as Snoop had told MUCH in a recent interview: “it’s gonna be classic West Coast gangsta shit and some new funk with a Rasta touch for yo ass, ya dig?!?” What we ended up with was a set primarily filled with Dogg hits like Gin and Juice and What’s My Name, but with glimpses into his new persona through his attire (a rasta hat and all Jamaican colours) and his new Jamaican accent? Trust us, we’re just as confused as you are reading this. If you have a proper explanation of any of this, please contact us – we want to understand!
Best dance party: Little Dragon
Swedish electro-pop band Little Dragon were the last act to take the stage at the electronic stage last night at Osheaga and man, did they know how to close the show off with one heck of a dance party! The space was jammed with fans ready to get their dance on and that is exactly what Little Dragon’s set did – it made us dance and sweat everything we’ve got left in us (which is honestly surprising how much sweat we’ve got in us – come to this festival and you’ll find out!).
Place to get some crowd surfing done: Black Lips
You can’t get much rowdier than a Black Lips set, especially at an outdoor festival where the elements just add to the chaos (the air thickening up with all the dust and sweat flying around!). Their energetic set was almost a hurricane of action: moshing, enthusiastic fans shouting the words to each song and even a few crowd surfers sneaking up for some air and a better view of the band!
Blast from the Past: Garbage
If you didn’t know who Garbage was, you might’ve been able to mistaken them for an exciting new up-and-coming act. These 90s alt-rockers have recently reunited and not only do they sound reenergized but they are better than ever – songs like Push It and Stupid Girl sound just as phenomenal, if not better, now and my goodness, how the heck has lead singer Shirley Manson not aged one day?!
Osheaga By the Numbers:
People who threw up at the Black Lips: 2 (a girl who was in the crowd during the set and band member Ben Eberbaugh immediately after their set)
Percentage of people who were waiting for Snoop Dogg, but secretly hoping for a full Snoop Lion set: 0
Percentage of people who were not sweaty and gross: 0
People who crowd surfed (in total): We’re going to guess over 20
Number of people waiting in line for water refills: upwards of 30, depending on the time of the day
People who envy Shirley Manson’s ageless beauty: all of us
People dancing on top of picnic tables during Little Dragon: approx. 25
Number of girls walking around with a tiara on their head: 2 (why?)
