Did I just wait several hours for a Nothing Was the Same hoodie? Maybe. Was it worth it? Definitely.
Drake opened three pop-up shops today — in New York, Los Angeles and Toronto — to celebrate the release of his upcoming album, Nothing Was the Same (out Tuesday). Fans lined up for hours, free shirts were given away and, in that time, there was lots of time to eavesdrop on the people around you.
Here are some gems we overheard while in and around the line:
“I just want to go home and play Grand Theft Auto right now.” — guy in line
“For those getting off for Drake, please say hi to him for me.” — streetcar driver
“You guys know that Drake’s not actually in there, right? Then why are you so excited for a t-shirt?” — police officer
“This is a good use of our city’s cops.” — guy in line
“This is how the G20 riots started, right?” — guy in line
“It’s not even about the shirts, it’s about the principle! THE PRINCIPLE!” — girl in line, commenting on people budding the line
“Can I get in soon? I have a lecture to get to in an hour.” — guy in line
“BACK OF THE LINE!!!!!!!!” — everyone in line, mad at people trying to cut in
