A big thank you to Paul Wesley for saying what all die-hard (vampire pun FTW) Vampire Diaries’ fans were thinking at the end of Season 3 – why didn’t Stefan save Matt AND Elena? In the season finale, Elena, played by Nina Dobrev, and Matt, played by Zach Roerig, drive their car off a bridge. When Stefan tries to save Elena, she refuses and points to Stefan to save Matt instead.
Wesley explains to Digital Spy that he was confused by the scene after receiving his script and even went so far as to talk to the show’s writers, who explained their decision by saying that Stefan was ‘physically unable’ to save Elena and was supporting her desire to be an independent woman and make her own decisions.
In the interview below, Wesley recounts the TVD writer’s reasoning behind the steps to ensuring Elena would begin the shows fourth season as a vampire. He doesn’t buy it and neither do I. Let’s increase the Season 4 shirtless scenes by 100% and we’ll call it even, TVD.
The Vampire Diaries returns with all new episodes of Season 4 on Friday, October 12 at 8 pm ET.
