September 20th marked the release of Pearl Jam’s ninth studio album ‘Backspacer’. From start to finish this album brings out some classic Pearl Jam and also shows a mature side to the alt grunge rockers. Clocking in at 37 minutes in length it is definitely their shortest album to date and there is no shortage of quality music on this album.

During their Toronto stop last month they played two new tracks, the single The Fixer and Got Some. Both tracks were received well by the crowd and listening to the tracks more, it’s no wonder why since they are both great tracks.

After one solid listen of the album, it is easy to come to the conclusion that this album is almost a mash-up of Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder’s solo material (Into The Wild soundtrack). A great example of this transition is from track 4 Johnny Guitar and track 5 Just Breathe where each have a distinct sound.

Stand out tracks include Got Some, Amongst The Waves and The End. Each of the songs seem to show the evolution of Pearl Jam over the years and still manage to be able to make great music that new and old fans would enjoy.

The album is in stores now and if you want you can preview the tracks on Pearl Jam’s website before you buy it.
