OMG Hov, I love you too!!

I was lucky enough to see Jay-Z on his Heart Of The City tour in April (my post about it here), but this weekend? Oh, my god. Three songs in the photo pit - let’s just say it was a life highlight.
The crowd threw their diamonds in the sky, the band launched into “Roc Boys” and Jay came out with the lovable smile on his face that you see above. I’m not sure how a big former drug dealer can be adorable and lovable, but it’s true. (Please note: Jay is also hard, powerful, full of swagger and potential menace, but, I mean… look at that punum!!). He brought Memphis Bleek on stage for a couple tunes and kept the set list pretty mainstream to appeal to the mainly non-hip-hop crowd (like his verses from “Umbrella” and “Crazy In Love”, or the Linkin Park version of “Encore”). The set list was pretty much exactly the same as his Glastonbury stint, including a version of Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab” and his London-inspired verse over Estelle’s “American Boy” (”London’s bridges are falling down, not bridges but britches when Jigga’s in town”). I was happy to hear “Public Service Announcement” and “Girls, Girls, Girls” and once we were kicked out of the pit I got my bounce on off to the side!

Oh yeah, and at the end of his set he shouted out to a bunch of people in the crowd (”you with the flag, I see you… I see you too, girl you fine”) and gave his jacket to a guy in the front row who sang every verse. Love it.

Jay Z is looking good, has he lost a few pounds? Or has the baggy t-shirts just shrunk in size. Besides the obvious, these are really some great photos!
