In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz opened up about his addiction to prescription pills, his divorce with Ashlee Simpson and their son, Bronx.
“I was probably physically and mentally addicted,” he says, about his relapse with prescription pills like Xanax and Klonopin. The musician eased off the pills shortly after his son was born in 2008, but admits to going back to his old ways when his band went on hiatus in 2009. “It started from insomnia and anxiety from flying, then it spiraled.”
He and Simpson filed for divorce in 2011 and things worsened.
“I felt like a loser already,” he reveals. “I’d basically gone from being the guy in Fall Out Boy to being the guy who, like, hangs out all day. I didn’t see how I’d ever come out on the other side.”
It wasn’t until after his divorce that he came clean about his issues and the combination of therapy and his son inspired him to get better.
“You’re up in the morning, and you have to really be there,” Wentz says. “It’s not like getting up for a radio interview. In some ways, that was superhelpful for my soul.”Tweet
