Pretty Litle Liars Ep. 10: What Lies Beneath

August 14th, 2012

Hanna and Emily piece together the night of Maya’s death, while their relationships receive complications from third parties. Plus, Aria comes to terms with Ezra’s past and Spencer is sent a clue that drastically changes her number one suspect. Find out what happened on tonight’s brand new episode of Pretty Little Liars!

Watch Pretty Little Liars every Tuesday at 8 pm ET on MUCH.

While moving a plant on her deck, Hanna finds a note Maya wrote for Emily. In the note, Maya says that someone stole her cell phone and that she wants to show Emily something. There’s two more clues for the murder investigation.

Aria finds a date on the letter and Emily realizes that the note was written the day Maya was killed. My spidey (and obvious) senses are telling me that whatever Maya wanted to show Emily was enough to get her killed by A.

Aria can’t stop thinking about Ezra’s ex-girlfriend Maggie and Ezra admits that he looked for her for months, but couldn’t find Maggie after his mother paid her off. Ezra points out that Aria took a long time to tell him about Jenna and A, but she doesn’t see how they’re the same thing.

Zack, Emily’s boss and owner of the coffee shop, surprises Ella at school with a very impressive picnic. Their lunch, and kiss, is interrupted by Aria walking in on them. Thankfully, she looks happy that her mom is happy, although she is a bit worried that Zack looks like he could be a student at Rosewood. Get it, Ella.

Ella tells Aria that she’s still dating other guys, thinking that Zack is probably dating other women. I just hope she’s not having dates at the coffeehouse he owns.

Ezra and Aria are hanging out at the coffee shop when Aria sees Zack. He apologizes for kissing Ella in front of Aria. He tells Aria that he thinks Ella is really funny and that he’s not seeing anyone else. Aria fills her mom in on their conversation and Zack and Ella decide to give a relationship a try.

Later that night, Aria apologizes for not respecting Ezra’s past, but he stops her and says that he found Maggie. She lives in Delaware, but Ezra hasn’t contacted her yet. Innnnnteresting. I feel like this new addition of Ezra’s family has put an expiration date on Ezria and that Maggie will be the final nail in their relationship coffin.

Wren sees Hanna at the coffee shop and asks her on a date, but Hanna tells him that their kiss from the other night can’t happen again. Wren tells her to give him a call if she changes her mind. Man, it is good to be Hanna. You know, except for the possible jail thing.

Hanna has printed pictures off Maya’s website, hoping that looking at them up close will provide clues for the missing parts of Maya’s letters. She also admits to Emily that Caleb knows about A and that they’re keeping their relationship a secret in an attempt to keep Caleb safe. Haleb lives!

Hanna’s plan works and she and Emily put two photos together and realize that Maya was at Noel Kahn’s cabin. In the picture she’s wearing pajamas and it’s daylight, so it wasn’t just another party that brought Maya to the Kahn’s.

With the girls new discovery, Spencer tries to get info out of Noel, who says that he knows Maya because he used to set her up with weed. He also says “It’s kinda hot knowing you think I’m capable of murder.” What the hell, crazy town?

Nate visits Emily at work, but when he spots Jenna with Noel he storms over and asks why she blew him off. Nate begins to get aggressive and Jenna tells him to back off. Man, coffee shops in Rosewood are rough.

Emily gets a second visitor when Paige stops by and complains that her grades aren’t high enough to stay on the swim team. Emily offers to cheer Paige up with a movie date that night.

But before their date, Emily and Hanna are on a mission to find clues at the Kahn Cottage. Or Kottage. The girls break into Noel Kahn’s cottage, which like all cottages has a wrought iron gate and security cameras. What the what? The Khan’s cottage looks like it’s fresh from a party and the girls begin looking around for clues about Maya’s death. They find a room that’s been blocked off and move the bookcase to get inside.

It looks like someone has been staying in the room and they find Maya’s bag. It’s got her clothes, a card Emily gave Alison on her 14th birthday, a knife with the initials L.J. carved into it and a bus ticket proving that Maya never left Rosewood. Before the girls can look any further, someone slams the door and shuts all the windows.

Emily and Hanna can’t get any reception in the room they’re locked inside of, so Emily takes matters into her own hands and tries to break out of the cottage with the knife. The falling glass cuts Hanna’s leg deeply. Emily tries again, this time with a baseball bat, and manages to make a big enough hole for the girls to escape.

As they’re running away from Noel’s cottage they see A has left them a message – “I’m saving you for later, A.” And RUN!

Hanna refuses to go to the hospital and risk her mom finding out about her cut and how she got it, so Emily calls Wren, who comes over and stitches up Hanna’s leg.

He makes Hanna dinner and looks like he’s going to kiss her again, but Hanna quickly puts an end to the evening before kiss number two happens. Gurl has willlllpower.

Emily comes home to find Nate waiting for her with an apology for acting like a jerk at the coffee shop. Emily shows Nate the bag they found at the Khan’s cottage and explains how she put all the clues together to find it. Crying over Maya, Nate kisses Emily and she kisses him back.

Paige arrives for her movie date with Emily and sees the two kissing, deciding to run off, and taking out some poor garbage cans on the way.

The next day, Emily and Paige are in the change room and Paige asks about Emily’s night. Emily tells her about Nate coming over and being upset, but leaves out the part about the kiss.

Spencer is in the boys change room and manages to break into Noel’s locker and steal his phone. Unfortunately, she doesn’t find any evidence on it that links him to Maya. Noel finds Spencer in the change room, but luckily she returns his phone before being spotted. Spencer is at home when she gets an email from who I can only assume is Noel Kahn. Attached is the security camera for his cottage from the night Maya died. Is he trying to help Spencer? That doesn’t seem very Noel-like.

In the video, Spencer sees Maya riding her bike into view on the Kahn’s security camera at 10 pm. An eyewitness told the police that Garrett was in his police cruiser with Maya at 9 pm, meaning he wasn’t the last person to see her alive. Spencer invites Hanna and Aria over to watch the video and the girls see Maya running into Noel’s cottage. A few minutes later, Noel and Jenna, who was still pretending to be blind, show up and go inside the cottage.

Seconds later, Maya runs out of the cottage looking panicked and is grabbed by someone in a black hoody and black gloves. We now know that Jenna, Noel and Garrett are off the suspect list for Maya’s death. We also know that A knew exactly where the security cameras were located. Not that I ever thought A was messing around, but A is really, really not messing around. I’m scurred.
