With Mona and Garrett behind bars the girls of Rosewood can finally breathe easy. But their reprieve from A’s constant stalking doesn’t last long and it’s beginning to look like their enemy isn’t a single person. Find out what happened on tonight’s Season 3 premiere of Pretty Little Liars after the jump!
It’s been five months since Mona revealed herself as A and the girls arrived home from the school dance to discover that the police found Maya’s body. While Spencer, Aria and Hanna stayed in Rosewood to take classes and hang out with their boyfriends, Emily went to Haiti for the summer, in the meantime developing a drinking problem.

She’s devastated over Maya’s death and when the girls spend the night at Spencer’s house, it’s like déjà vu all over again. Hanna and Aria wake up to find Emily gone and Spencer looking for her.

The girls finally find Emily standing at the foot of Alison’s grave with a shovel in hand. The grave has been dug up and an empty casket is revealed. Emily can’t remember how she got to the cemetery, but her phone shows she received a blocked call from someone hours ago. Her caller ID also shows Spencer’s phone, meaning someone snuck into the Hastings house while the girls were sleeping and used Spencer’s phone. Phew. I was worried for a moment that the girls actually learned how to use locks this summer.

Aria and Hanna drive back to Spencer’s house and on the way spot Lucas getting into his car in the town square. Let’s remember that it was Lucas who destroyed Alison’s memorial site. We know he can find his way to the cemetery with a shovel in hand. When they arrive at the Hastings house, Spencer has a plan. The girls head to the lake house and agree to pretend they’ve been there all night.

The next morning Spencer receives a call from her mother, who tells her that a caretaker at the cemetery found Alison’s empty grave. Spencer fakes surprise. Was she taking acting classes all summer? Well done, Spence.

Ezria are still in full swing and so are Aria’s nightmares. Ezra has been reading about Maya’s murder and it looks like the murdered teen had found some new items that belong to Alison that she never told Emily about. Looks like we found motive for whoever killed Maya.

The upcoming weekend is not only the anniversary of Alison’s death, but it’s also Ezria’s one year anniversary. It looks like they’re celebrating early. I will do my best to not hate on this couple in Season 3, even though student-teacher relationships give me the heebie jeebies.

Hanna pays Mona a visit at the institution, where we find out that she’s been lying to people all summer and visiting Mona the whole time.

Hanna wants to know what she did to Mona to make her hate Hanna so much, but Mona silently stares at the wall the entire time.

On her way out Hanna runs into Wren, who volunteers at the hospital each month. Seriously, is he the ONLY doctor in this town?

The girls are at school and ready to put things behind them and register for grade 12 classes, but Emily is too scared to go inside and Aria suffers from a panic attack in the bathroom when she thinks she sees A. Spencer is getting calls from an Unknown number, but won’t answer any of the calls. Homework isn’t looking so bad.

Things aren’t much better for Aria at home. Ella has decided to move out of the Montgomery house for good since she and Byron can’t find a common ground in their marriage.

That night Emily meets Toby at the coffee house below the loft he’s living in and the old friends catch up. Toby hasn’t talked to Jenna since she left town – where’d she go??? And did she drive herself? Emily tells Toby about the anger she feels over Maya’s death and the black outs she’s been experiencing for the past months as a result of her drinking. She stops before telling him the truth about Alison’s grave.

Though she’s supposed to be studying for one of her summer courses, Spencer can’t let the night Mona revealed herself as A go and heads back to the Lost Woods Resort.

Mona’s former headquarters have been stripped of the stalker pictures of the girls and the room is barely recognizable. Spencer sets up her laptop in the room and when she gets a call from the Unknown number, she finally answers.

Spencer visits Garrett at the police station and we learn its been him making the phone calls. Garrett knows who killed Alison, but he wants Mrs. Hastings as his lawyer in return for his information. Before Garrett is pulled away by an officer he tells Spencer that he knows who took Alison’s body.

Hanna and Caleb are cooking dinner when she gets a call from Wren. The doctors think Hanna’s visits are helping Mona get better and Wren wants Hanna to come by more. I’m scurred.

The girls are back in the police station and Aria, Hanna and Spencer are being questioned over their location on the night Ali’s grave was found empty. Ezra shows up and Aria decides to invite her mother to join them on their anniversary date. Hawt. And totally not uncomfortable.

While out for a run the next morning, Emily comes across a car that she recognizes and gets a text saying ‘Bet You Remember Me’ before the car speeds off. Isn’t that the car that Jenna drove last season?

Emily gets to Spencer’s house and tells the girls that the car she just saw triggered her memory and she thinks she remembers it from the night at the cemetery.

Spencer takes the girls to the hotel and shows them a picture she’s been working on in an attempt to recreate the room when she saw it with Mona. The girls finally tell Emily that when they went back to the hotel the day after Maya’s body was found and discovered that the room had been stripped bare and not by the police. Can we finally stop assuming Mona is the only A? This is a team, y’all.

The girls go back to Specner’s car and find it covered in pictures of them at Ali’s grave the night her body went missing. Right on cue, they received a text message from A, saying “Mona played with dolls, I play with body parts. Game on bitches.” I think I just peed a little.

Anyone notice that the hotel is now deserted and for sale? Who knew that place could get creepier! Well done, PLL.
