The separation between the girls deepens when Spencer isolates herself in Radley. Aria makes a decision about her relationship with Ezra, Hanna’s helping hand get slapped and Emily’s worst fear is realized.

The girls are finally allowed into Radley to visit Spencer, but the Spencer they find in her bathrobe and pyjamas is not the Spencer they know. They tell Spencer that a body was found in the woods, but it’s not Toby’s. Instead, the police found the body of a hiker who had been reported missing. Spencer refuses to believe them and shocks the girls even further when she informs them she doesn’t plan on coming home anytime soon, feeling safe behind the bars of Radley.

Spencer leaves the girls and goes back to her room to get something from her pillowcase, but freezes when the nurse knocks on her door. What is she hiding?

Aria is worried about sitting outside The Brew with Ezra, but he doesn’t seem concerned about anyone seeing them in public. Maggie interrupts their date with a phone call asking Ezra to pick Malcolm from karate class the next day, but it conflicts with Ezra’s interview, so Aria agrees to pick up Malcolm. This will likely go poorly.

Later that day, Ella pulls Hanna aside and tells her that the church is concerned after the bell Caleb’s father Jamie bought for the church was cheap, having pocketed the $8,000 he was given to buy a new bell.

Caleb is excited to tell Hanna about how much he and his dad are bonding and wants to take them to dinner. She tries to put on a happy face, but does a terrible job.

At dinner that night, Jamie gives Hanna a necklace with an ANGEL on it because she has been so helpful bringing Caleb and Jamie together and getting Jamie a job. Their dinner is interrupted when Jamie gets a call from Pastor Ted informing him that he’s been fired from the church. Jamie runs off to talk to Ted and Hanna tries to keep a straight face.

The next day at school, Caleb vents to Hanna, infuriated that the church has fired Jamie because he has a criminal past. Hanna finally admits that she saw Jamie use the same bill she donated to the Church.

Devastated, Caleb screams at his father when Jamie shows up at Hanna’s house to see the couple. Caleb brings up all the horrific things that happened to him growing up without parents and tells Jamie that he doesn’t want him in his life anymore.

But things are about to get worse. Hanna and Caleb are having coffee at The Brew that night when Hanna gets a text from A, gloating that Jamie was framed.

The girls are trying to come up with a plan to prove to Spencer that the body the police found is not Toby’s and Emily suggests they sneak into the morgue and take a picture of John Doe. Creepy much?

The girls are back in their volunteer uniforms and ready to take on the morgue. Aria keeps watch outside, but gets distracted when she spots the blonde in the red coat, following her to the elevator, but losing her at the last minute. Emily and Hanna check the body bags, but one of the bags is missing its tag. They unzip the bag to find a man they don’t recognized with a plastic mask on his face. At least it wasn’t Toby. I’m still crossing my fingers that he’s not evil.

Back at Radley, it quickly becomes obvious that Wren and Eddie have a history. Wren finds Eddie handing a board game to Spencer and interrupts, quickly getting rid of Eddie. Wren tells Spencer that Eddie played the board game with Mona when she was first a patient and she later became obsessed with it. Time to stare at the board game!

The board game has a world map on it and someone has written numbers and arrows discreetly in different sections, which look like directions. Spencer follows the markings on the map to a window, pushing it open to find that the hinge is broken, making it an easy spot to get in and out of Radley unnoticed.

Spencer gets another visitor later in the day when her mother arrives, but Spencer makes it very clear with her outburst that she isn’t ready to go home.

Scared that her daughter is holding onto a secret, Mrs. Hastings shares a memory of Alison wandering into their kitchen crying with a bleeding lip. Alison refused to say who hurt her and a few weeks later she was dead.

After her mother leaves, Spencer is alone in her room with Eddie and asks him about Wren and Mona and the game. Spencer thinks it was Wren who was causing problems with the badges and sneaking people in and Eddie tells her to trust her instincts. I know you can never trust anyone on PLL, but I feel like Eddie is telling the truth. Once he leaves, Spencer sneaks her sleeping pill out of her mouth and into her collection of pills in her pillow. Is that what she was hiding when the nurse interrupted her earlier?

Eddie is heading back to Spencer’s room with a book for her, but Wren stops him, telling Eddie that ‘they don’t want to have the same problem again’. I assume that Wren is referring to Mona, but was Eddie a problem or was it Wren, who is trying to frame Eddie for something?

Spencer waits for everyone to go to sleep when she creeps out of her room and follows the map on the board game to the abandoned wing with the old children’s nursery. I remember this place from Mona’s time at Radley and it’s just as creepy as before. Having not slept in three days, Spencer is hallucinating and sees Alison in the room.

Alison tells Spencer that it was a girl who hit her and then directs Spencer to the next room, where Spencer finds an old toy horse that holds Mona’s fake Employee ID badge for Radley and a visitor pass for Cece Drake. Why would Cece be visiting Mona?

Wren, who is likely following Spencer constantly now, finds her in the nursery and tells her that Melissa called Cece and told her Mona was in Radley. He says that Alison pulled a stunt that got Cece kicked out of college. Knowing that Alison tormented Mona, Cece thought she could help the young girl and asked Wren to get her into the hospital even though Mona wasn’t allowed visitors then. Okay, let’s recap. Melissa and Cece are involved with Mona. Are they still? Are they on the A Team together? Is Wren part of the team? Is Spencer not freezing in a nightgown with no slippers?

Aria is picking Malcolm up at karate when the instructor tells her that Aria Montgomery already picked up Malcolm. CALL THE POLICE!!! But no, Aria instead decides that she will follow the poster for the carnival that was left in Malcolm’s cubby and find the missing child herself. GAWD. What is wrong with her?!

Aria gets to the carnival and runs into her mother, who begins lecturing Aria about dating Ezra. Anyone else find it strange that Ella is at a carnival by herself? Aria spots Malcolm and then loses him in the crowd, eventually finding him in the Faust puppet theatre by himself. Malcolm is waiting for the next puppet show to start and tells Aria that he likes her friend Alison. This episode is stressing me out.

Aria meets Ezra later that night at a restaurant and is relieved that Malcolm said nothing about a stranger picking him up from karate. Apparently as stressed out as I am, Aria tells Ezra that she ‘can’t do this anymore’, but Ezra wants her to sleep on things. I don’t think she can sleep away a kid and an ex-girlfriend.

After getting Aria’s call that Malcolm was missing, Emily goes to meet Aria at the police station and instead runs into her mother at work. Emily’s mom is holding a box labelled ‘Missing Persons’ and tells Emily to go home.

Later that night, Emily’s mother tells her in confidence that the police have found another body in the woods. It’s a young man, but his injuries are so significant that the police will need a few days to identify the body. Oh, and the body was buried in a shallow grave exactly where Spencer said she saw Toby and her purse was nearby. So ya, this is terrifying.

Back in Spencer’s room at Radley…wait for it…Spencer reaches into her pillow and pulls out A BLACK HOODY AND TICKETS TO THE FAUST PUPPET SHOW. A voice over on Mona and Spencer talking tells us that Spencer has agreed to do whatever Mona wants. ERMAHGHERD. So far, I’m pretty sure that Spencer kidnapped Malcolm. Was she the blond at the hospital? What else has she done? Or worse, what else is she going to do?

The final scene shows us the second body found in the woods being wheeled into the morgue. Toby’s tattoo is visible, but wait, it’s RUBBING OFF. IT’S FAKE! IT’S NOT TOBY! THIS REQUIRES CAPS LOCK! TOBY LIVES!
