The king of covers
May 7th, 2013
The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Gala got a big dose of the 1980s during last night’s event. With the theme of Punk: Chaos to Couture, the usual red carpet approved look of soft hair and flattering make-up was out. Intense eyes, sky-high hair and daring, studded designs were all the rage.
Celebs like Blake Lively, Kate Beckinsale, Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Mara played it safe, while others took the theme head on. Literally. Anne Hathaway wowed with platinum blond locks, reminding us that before she scored an Oscar for playing Fantine in Les Mis, she scored a number one spot on the hot list at Cat Woman. Miley Cyrus spiked her short do, Ivanka Trump added some colour to her tips and Jennifer Morrison rocked a chic faux hawk.
Kristen Stewart and Nina Dobrev pulled of sex pant suits, while Taylor Swift showed a bold new look with her smoky make up and designer gown. Madonna, reminding everyone who was queen of the charts in the 1980s, rocked out in fishnets and oversized crosses.
