R.I.P. TV On the Radio’s Gerard Smith

Just last month, TV On the Radio revealed that their bassist and keyboardist Gerard Smith (second from the right) had been diagnosed with lung cancer and would be sitting out on their tour to undergo treatment. Sadly, today the band has announced that early this morning Smith passed away.

The band post a message on their website that reads: We are very sad to announce the death of our beloved friend and bandmate, Gerard Smith, following a courageous fight against lung cancer. Gerard passed away the morning of April 20th, 2011. We will miss him terribly.

The band have cancelled their upcoming shows in Chicago, Minneapolis, Denver and tonight’s show in Detroit.
