August 18th, 2008

Radiohead (with openers Grizzly Bear, who were a highlight of mine at last week’s Lollapalooza) played to a dead sold out and enthusiastic crowd this past Friday, August 15 at Molson Amphitheatre.
This was a super hot ticket. Between the blisteringly fast sellout via a W.A.S.T.E. presale and then the subsequent flagging and deletion of hundreds of scalper posts on Craigslist, everyone was trying to find a way to get into the show without breaking the bank. Word has it that general admission pit tickets were being sold (by scalpers) outside the venue for upwards of $1000 apiece. Brutal.
The guys delivered an absolutely solid set of songs - I mean, can I draw your attention to the first of the two encores (Like Spinning Plates, Videotape, Airbag, Talk Show Host [!!!] and Street Spirit)? The only thing that’s missing is Exit Music…. Stunning.
Hope the lawns weren’t too wet - what a beautiful return to Toronto nearly five years to the day of their originally scheduled Hail To The Thief (August 16, 2003) tour date at the very same venue.
