Prodigy has revealed that we’ll have a new Mobb Deep album out before the end of 2011. He told Bootleg Kev that he can’t share too many details, but that he and Havoc are working hard. “We’ll be dropping the single for the [new] album soon,” he said. “That’s the only thing we’re focusing on right now, the Mobb Deep album…it’ll be [out] before the new year. We ain’t letting nothing out the bag [with features] – just know, it’s that hard shit…[it'll be] Al[chemist], Havoc, the home team, you know? Mobb Deep, you know how we always do it.” Also on tap is a possible full-length collabo with Nas. (Via Hip Hop DX)
Kanye West and Jay-Z’s Watch The Throne may have won over fans and critics, but one hapless blues musician is apparently in tears over the album. Syl Johnson, a veteran guitarist, whose song “Different Strokes” was sampled by the super duo on the song “The Joy,” which also features vocals from the late Curtis Mayfield. The song, which was originally released as part of Yeezy’s G.O.O.D. Friday series was recently added to Watch The Throne‘s deluxe edition. Apparently, the label that released the album, Def Jam, however, have not paid Johnson or Numero Group, the label that releases his music, nor have they sent over the proper paperwork agreeing to using the sample. To add insult to injury, Numero Group were miscredited in the liner notes as the song’s publisher. (Via Numero Group)
This week The Game released his new album, The RED Album. But now he’s currently being investigated as a suspect in a street fight that broke out in front of a Hollywood club early Tuesday morning. According to a police report, the rapper attacked a man outside of the Colony nightclub. So far, no arrests have been made, but TMZ has footage of the altercation, though not of Game throwing down, as the victim claims. (Via TMZ)
