Mos Def and Talib Kweli reunited as duo Black Star this summer for a bunch of Rock the Bells dates. And while it’s not a sign of new music to come, the stint has brought on a subsequent tour across the U.S. Beginning this Wednesday in Detroit, Black Star will also hit up the main market, including Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles. Unfortunately, like the recent Toronto edition of RTB, there are no Canadian dates to speak of at the moment. (Via Rap Radar)
Ever since Prodigy was released from prison in March, he and Havoc have been talking about putting out some new Mobb Deep. Now they’re about to deliver on that promise. After securing a deal with Sony Red distribution, the duo have announced a new EP will drop on November 25th. “We have an EP coming on Black Friday,” Havoc said. “We didn’t come up with a title yet, but we’ll have a title that will mean something. It will be like seven or eight songs. I did like three. We have some produced by J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, Alchemist and this kid named Young Free.” This marks their first studio release since 2006′s Blood Money. (Via XXL)
Kid Cudi has admitted that his new band Wizard spawned from his decision to quit drugs and pick up a guitar. In the Complex cover story, Cudi said, “I always wanted to play guitar. I tried it as a child and failed, tremendously. I tried to play the trumpet, the fucking clarinet, violin. Back then, when you tried that in school they would want you to read sheet music. It wasn’t about, ‘Can you play by ear?’ I’m not one of those musicians,” he said. “So I picked up the guitar last fall and I started fiddling with it. It came kind of natural to me. I’m not saying that the first time around I was shredding riffs. But I was able to pick it up and pick, and go up and down the neck, and find melodies. I was like, ‘Shit, I want to just make jams with this instrument.’ It was something that I took very seriously.” The Wizard album is set to come out on Cudi’s own label, Wicked Awesome, some time in 2012.
