RapCity P.M. News Round Up: Pharrell Working With Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, and The Dream

September 21st, 2011

Rapper and producer Pharrell Williams recently spoke to Vibe Magazine and shared big news that he’s working with Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, and The Dream. Pharrell didn’t reveal too much but he did say that what he’s doing with Jay-Z is “some magic.” In reference to Blige, Pharrell contributed to her new album, My Life 2: The Journey Continues and said, “the Mary stuff is sick. [She’s] on her A-game right now. Her new album is incredible and I’m honored to be a part of it.” Pharell is currently working on a project with The Dream too, which I’m sure we’ll hear more about soon. (Via Hip Hop DX)

Wu-Tang Clan rapper Raekwon told All Hip Hop that he and a few other people wrote a film called, Cream. He explained that the film is semi-autobiographical and that they’re currently casting for it. Raekwon said it has a similar vibe to Boyz N The Hood. (Via All Hip Hop)

The IDJ Awards Gala and Reunion is going down on September 26 through to the 28th in Las Vegas and many DJs will be honoured, including DJ Roc Raida, DJ AM, DJ Mr. Magic, DJ Hideo, and DJ Screw. According to All Hip Hop, “the conference will feature workshops on topics that include video editing, DJing techniques, new technology.” Edwin “OG Eddie” Myles, an IDJ associate, said about the event, that “I learned at the feet of our industry forefathers that the bigger picture is about the culture and preserving its legacy so we have to continually give something back to it so it can continue to grow and flourish and these networking events do just that.” (Via All Hip Hop)

Big Boi has collaborated with a lot of artists in different genres and today Exclaim shared that he wants to work with rock musician Kate Bush. Last week, we posted that Big Boi will most likely release a solo album next year and he hopes to include this song with Bush on the album. Big Boi explained further that Bush has “a new album coming out in November, so I’ve got my management team and record company, I’ve got little babies and squirrels looking for her. That’s the only thing that I want to happen right now. She’s an all around artist — producer, songwriter, performer.” The collaboration is obviously not set in stone, but it seems like Big Boi is pretty passionate about this one and he’ll probably pull it off.
