Need to know: British born Stephen Wilkinson, aka Bibio, began his career with his 2005 debut album Fi, labelling himself as “saturated folk.” He released his fifth studio album, Ambivalance Avenue in 2009, which became highly acclaimed and was a major breakthrough in his career. New album, Mind Bokeh, finds him transitioning away from the folk influence to incorporate vocals and more electronics. But with Bibio, the form is never separated from the content: his use of analogue tape and vintage recording equipment is still part of his signature, textured sound.

Via Twitter: “Excuses” & “Anything New” are perfect analogies for Bokeh – lingo for the aesthetic blurring in an out-of-focus region of a photo.

Sample: “Excuses”

RIYL: Toro Y Moi, Flying Lotus, Four Tet, Washed Out
