Inception is a film about dreams. It is directed by Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Memento) and stars Leonardo DiCaprio (Shutter Island, Titanic) and Ellen Page (Hard Candy, Juno). You should go into the film knowing only this. Don’t watch the trailers, don’t try and read spoilers, just enjoy.
This is one of the best films of the year so far and its not your typical summer blockbuster. Unlike the garbage that has been out so far, Knight and Day, Marmaduke or The A-Team this movie wants you to think.
The film is always one step ahead of you. When you are confused, it answers your questions. When it gets ridiculous, it pokes fun of itself. When you think you have worked it all out, it asks you, ‘Really?”
This is a director working at the height of his powers, story, photography and effects combine to form an experience you haven’t seen before. The tension that is created due to the editing of the finale between three set pieces is incredible.
Not since The Matrix has a film so firmly got you by the scruff of the collar. I even woke up from a dream last night and questioned whether I was back in reality – this is the effect of this film.
My only warning is this – if you like films starring dinosaurs, Adam Sandler or vampires, this might not be for you.
Go see Inception.
