Need to know: Julian Lynch doesn’t have a website, a Myspace, or a Twitter account. Once, he performed a show via webcam from the comfort of his own apartment. At 26, Lynch seems to be purposefully crafting himself the persona of the mysterious, brooding intellectual who hides indoors honing his craft and playing musical scientist. Growing up in Ridgewood, NJ, Lynch notes that he was musically privileged, having been given the opportunity to learn a variety of instruments, including the piano, the clarinet and the guitar. In high school, he played in bands with friends who would later become members of Real Estate, Titus Andronicus and Family Portrait. He has also worked for Smithsonian Folkways Recordings. And to top it all off, Lynch is currently taking a joint PhD in ethnomusicology and anthropology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Having released two full length albums on Old English Spelling Bee, Orange You Glad in 2009, and Mare in 2010, Julian Lynch has now made the move to the label Underwater Peoples to release his new LP, Terra.

Via Twitter: Terra’s ambient folk is earthy, gentle and soporific, yet has surprising moments, some eerie (“Fort Collins”) and some uplifting (“Terra”).

RIYL: Ducktails, Real Estate, Women, Kurt Vile
