Angus and Julia Stone’s new album, Down The Way, isn’t out in stores until March 30, but we’ve got the entire album on our MuchMusic.com First Spins for you to listen to right here.
Angus and Julia Stone’s album review after the jump!
This Australian brother and sister duo have been together since 2006, releasing their first full length album, A Book Like This, in 2007. The pair have toured the UK, Europe and the US opening for acts like Brett Dennen and David Grey. The Stone’s have put out six EP’s since forming as a group, and their music has gained much deserved exposure after appearing in such shows as 90210, Lipstick Jungle, Hung and Good Morning America.
Angus and Julia Stone’s new album is good. Like, really good. Think, Cat Power meets Hellsongs meets Ellie Goulding meets Neil Young. Amazing harmonies (does sharing DNA help?), pianos, guitars, synth machines and a mixture of folk, country and electronica makes you want to lay in a grassy field and listen to all 13 tracks while the sun goes down. Do I sound trippy? You will too after listening to Down the Way on repeat.
If this album had come out in 1976 it would have gone platinum. Today, with the deep saturation of pop and hip hop dominating the charts, Down the Way might not get the attention that it deserves. Consider it our gift to you.
Top Picks: Draw Your Swords, Yellow Brick Road, Santa Monica Dream
Closing Point: Think more Rufus and Martha Wainwright, less Donny and Marie Osmond.
