Need to know: The Brooklyn based art-rock trio, Tunde Adebimpe (vocals), Dave Sitek (guitars/keyboards/loops/producer) and Kyp Malone (vocals/guitar/bass/loops) formed TV On The Radio in 2001. Their 2006 release Return To Cookie Mountain featured notable contributions from David Bowie, Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Kazu Makino (Blonde Redhead), and others. Their fourth studio album, Dear Science saw the arrival of two new members, Jaleel Bunton (drums/vocals/guitar/loops) and Gerard Smith (bass/keyboards). That album was named 2008’s album of the year by such influential music publications as Rolling Stone, the Guardian, MTV, Entertainment Weekly and Pitchfork‘s readers poll. In 2009 they called an “indefinite hiatus” to pursue various projects, but they have finally emerged with a fresh new album, Nine Types of Light.

Via Twitter: A mellow, spacey album, Nine Types of Light is slightly more minimalist than you’d expect from their usual maniacal and experimental tracks.

Sample: Listen to the entire album in the band’s new film.

RIYL: Rain Machine, Wolf Parade, LCD Soundsystem, Spoon.
