Rihanna and Taylor Swift lead MTV EMA Nominations

The list of nominees for the 2012 MTV European Music Awards were announced today and Rihanna and Taylor Swift have taken the lead with six and five nominations a piece. The two women will be going head to head in many of the same categories, including Best Female Artist, Best Pop Act, and Best Look. Rihanna is also up for Best Fans and Best Song and Best Video for her Calvin Harris collaboration on We Found Love. Taylor Swift has scored additional nominations for Best World Stage and Best Live Act.

There’s no shortage of Canadian star power for this year’s list of the best in music, with Justin Bieber racking up four nominations and his labelmate, Carly Rae Jepsen, making her MTV EMA nominee debut with three nominations. Jepsen has been nominated in the prestigious Best Song category for her break out hit Call Me Maybe and is going head to head with Rita Ora, fun., One Direction and Lana Del Ray in the stacked Best New Artist category. Drake and Arcade Fire both received nominations for this year’s show.

This year’s MTV EMAs, which will air exclusively on MuchMusic on Sunday, November 11, will take place in Frankfurt’s historical Festhalle. Starting today, viewers can vote on MTV EMA categories such as Best New and Best Live at www.mtvema.com. Check out the full list of nominees below.
