Rihanna: OH SH*T!!

I’ve been listening to Rihanna’s new single “Umbrella” (featuring Jay-Z) for I guess about a month now. This was such a smart song to put out for her first single, and she was GENIUS to have recorded it. The beat is huge – just like, wham, pow, in your face. But what matters most is the chorus – oh, the chorus!! Just when you think it can’t get any better, she pulls out the M.I.A.-like “umbrella, ella, ella, ay, ay, ay!” and you want to slap yourself because it’s so good. Well, I did. And if you don’t, I’ll personally come and slap you myself – that’s a guarantee!! (Please note: it’s a metaphorical guarantee).

Anyway, I came into work this morning and Justin was watching the video, which is perfect for this song, by the way. It’s shot beautifully, Rihanna looks SMOKING HOT, and by the time the sparks fall in the wide shots at the end, you’re either sweating or crying or both. From “Pon De Replay” to “SOS” to THIS, Rihanna’s rise has been slow but steady – which is brilliant. She’s about to become a huge star.
