After delivering a moving performance with Mikky Ekko during Sunday’s broadcast of the 55th Annual Grammy Awards, Rihanna has now released her video for Stay. The second single from her seventh studio album Unapologetic, Stay is a huge departure from the club hits Rihanna has been pumping out in recent years, including tracks like We Found Love and Where Have You Been.
Rihanna leaked a version of the video last night on her Twitter page, which featured close up shots of the singer in a bathtub, singing only a handful of the lines from Stay.
The official video, which hit the web this morning, shows both Rihanna and her collaborator Mikky Ekko, pining for one another in the same bathroom, though they never appear together. The official video includes wider angles of a very naked Rihanna, looking natural and make-up free. Appearing on the edge of despair for the entire video, the final frames show Rihanna becoming physically upset, with tears rolling down her face as the song comes to a close.
The video was directed by Sophie Muller, who is famous for her work with No Doubt and Annie Lennox. This is the first time Rihanna has partnered with Muller and hopefully not the last.
