Rihanna Sells Umbrellas

Well it was bound to happen. When you sing a song about umbrellas, no doubt you’ll soon be shilling them as well. Rihanna has taken that logical step by teaming up with umbrella-makers, totes.

Take a look at the print ad – it’s an odd one. In the Umbrella music video, Rihanna gets splashed with CGI water, which works since it isn’t given any context – it’s just a cool visual. In the ad for umbrellas, however, she is posing poolside, with a massive splash of water behind her, and I’m not convinced it works – people carry umbrellas to avoid rain, not random blasts from SuperSoakers. Or did Jay-Z just cannonball into the pool? I bet he did. He’d be funny like that.
