Rihanna shines like a Diamond in the sky on new single

Rihanna has released the first single from her upcoming seventh studio album and has successfully blown my mind on a Wednesday morning. While most of Rihanna’s recent singles have begun to sound repetitive and indistinguishable from one another, Diamonds shows that the singer is ready to take some musical risks with her new album.

Sounding like M83 meets Lana Del Ray meets Sia meets Rihanna (it does still sound like her, afterall), Diamonds is a refreshingly genre-bending pop song from one of the world’s biggest pop artists. The track begins with an almost melancholy feel, but lifts in tempo as the inspirational lyrics progress, breathing new life into the music charts.

Rihanna’s new album is rumoured to be released in November, with the singer embaraking on a world tour in 2013, which includes seven Canadian dates.
