Hey all, it’s L dot Lizzle.
If you know anything about me you know that I am in love with Robyn (amongst many other artists). I happily admit to having enthusiastic solo dance parties while listening to her music. And, I not so secretly long to be as cool as she is.
When Robyn & Röyksopp announced their collaboration called Do It Again, I’m pretty sure the entire office heard me squeal with excitement. Obviously I love the whole EP but the stand out track for me is Monument. Something about the song sent chills down my back on a first listen and it immediately took me into a new world.
Now, the group has a new video for the track. I had a lot of expectations for the video. I made someone else watch it before me to prepare me so I wouldn’t be let down. It turned out I felt the exact opposite of disappointment. The director of the video Max Vitali (also Robyn’s boyfriend) explains the treatment perfectly: “The video is about exploring the space around you and in you and finding your own space within it all. Half real, half fantasy.”
Personally, it reminds me of one of my all time favourite videos, All is Full of Love by Bjork, directed by Chris Cunningham. Robots finding love in a mechanical world.
I’m going to cut myself off here as I would probably going on for pages and pages dissecting this epic music video. Closing statements: F$*# YES ROBYN!!!!!!!
Ps. I’ll be at their Toronto show on August 25 at Echo Beach in case you want to come have a dance party with me and my pals Elvis and Brian!Tweet
