Russell Brand buried the hatchet with his pop star ex-wife Katy Perry, from whom he split up with in December 2011, by buying her a gold cuff for her 28th birthday last month as well as sending her a hand-made mediation cushion.

A source revealed to The Sun newspaper: “Even though they’ve broken up, Russell wanted to send Katy something. He thought it would be nice to let her know he’s thinking of her.”

Russell’s mum Barbara also remembered her former daughter-in-laws birthday, sending her special flowers and a card to her Los Angeles home.

The news of this sentimental gesture comes days after both Katy and Russell, were spotted at the Lakers basketball season opening game on Tuesday in Los Angeles, however they were both seated at opposite ends of the VIP area and reportedly didn’t speak at all.

The singer spent her birthday last week with First Lady Michelle Obama and took to Twitter to share her joy at the experience, posting: “So tonight was a great night! The PRESIDENT gave grandma and I unforgettable shout outs & now I am officially 28! Best. birthday. ever.

“NOW my bday is complete! Lunch with @MichelleObama #chicvote (sic)”

Katy asked for donations to be made to The David Lynch Foundation instead of presents – a non-profit organization transforming the lives of at-risk populations through meditation.
